At the end of last year seven of our students auditioned for various university music courses. Most applied for jazz performance, but some were interested in contemporary and improvised music.
And they all got in to top courses.
Most of them had offers from multiple universities.
The universities they accepted offers from included: Sydney Conservatorium of Music; Monash University; Victorian College of the Arts (Melbourne University); and James Morrison Academy.
Another student from previous years also got into the jazz degree at Sydney Conservatorium, having studied elsewhere in the meantime.
All these students played in our JWA combos.
One of the students only started learning jazz at the start of 2017, taking an intensive course of private lessons, individual improvisation coaching, combo, and big band (plus lots of home practice and listening). He still got accepted into more than one university.
Another vintage year for JWA. We are very proud of all of them and wish them the best for the future.
