Trial lessons and casual lessons
Trial lessons give you and your prospective teacher an opportunity to try a one-off lesson before you commit to regular weekly lessons. Trial lessons are to make sure that both the student and teacher will be happy with each other. All lessons at Jazz Workshop Australia are to be paid in advance.
How to arrange a trial lesson at JWA
1. Contact us and tell us a bit about yourself or your child — your instrument, level, and availability.
2. We’ll match you with the right teacher for your needs and schedule.
3. Arrange a time directly with your teacher.
4. Book and pay using our enrolment form once your time is confirmed.
The lessons are all at our studio in St Leonards. It is close to the Crows Nest Metro and St Leonards station. There are also plenty of buses, good parking, and JWA is easy to get to from anywhere in Sydney, especially the north shore or CBD.
Before you book, please take a moment to read our terms & conditions, especially the sections on student behaviour, payment in advance, and rescheduling.

Instruments & instrument hire
You need an instrument before you can start lessons and you’ll need one at home to practise on between sessions. We don’t have instruments for hire but our neighbour, In Tune Music, rents out wind and brass instruments. We have a double bass that students can use in lessons, subject to availability, but you’ll still need your own instrument at home.
If you don’t yet have an instrument or aren’t in a position to practise regularly, it’s worth sorting that out before you book.
Casual lessons
Occasional or casual lessons are far less effective than regular lessons and we discourage them. However, sometimes life happens and you might not be able to commit to a regular time.
Casual lessons are charged at a higher rate than regular lessons — see our current lesson prices for details. You won’t have a guaranteed timeslot.
If you’re new to JWA, follow the same steps as for a trial lesson — contact us first so we can match you with the right teacher.
If you’re an existing student arranging a one-off casual lesson, contact your teacher directly to confirm availability, then book and pay using the enrolment form.
If you pay for a lesson but can’t make it, you can cancel up to 24 hours ahead for a full refund. With less than 24 hours notice, lessons can’t be refunded.
