piano lessons at JWA
Piano and keyboard lessons are available at JWA with Gavin Ahearn. The lessons are at our studio in Crows Nest- St Leonards very close to the station, buses and easy parking. The Jazz Workshop is easy to get to for students in any of our local suburbs, like Artarmon, Chatswood, North Sydney, Cammeray, and Neutral Bay. Gavin teaches piano students from all over the north shore, Sydney CBD, and even further afield.
Students of all ages and standards are welcome. Jazz Workshop caters particularly to students who want to learn to play jazz or who are looking for an alternative to traditional exam-based teaching methods, but of course you can learn traditional classical piano too.

“a beautiful, lyrical pianist… eking out the deeply affecting & truly extraordinary” –Australian Stage.
Gavin can help you achieve your musical goals on the piano, whether you, or your child, are a beginner or an advanced student, or returning to piano after a time away. Lots of people stop playing when they finish school but then come back to piano later on. Others have learnt classical piano, frequently to a high level, and are looking to broaden their musical horizons with jazz piano lessons.

Jazz improvisation coaching
Private and group jazz improvisation coaching is available to anybody at JWA. Gavin Ahearn, and many of the other teachers, can give one-on-one coaching to you or your child, regardless of your instrument. It is about concepts, skills, and techniques; if you/your child can already play an instrument well, or have a good instrumental teacher, then this kind of coaching is ideal. You don’t learn how to play your instrument in the impro coaching, you learn how to play jazz. The group lessons are in bands of mixed instruments, called jazz combos. Find out more about our jazz combos. Lessons can be either ongoing, occasional, or a short series.
