Michelle Shih – Classical guitar teacher for JWA

We are excited to announce the arrival of classical guitarist Michelle Shih to teach at JWA. She will be offering classical guitar lessons at our studio in St Leonards / Crows Nest from the end of term 3, (2020).

Michelle holds both a Masters of Musicology and a Bachelor of Music Education majoring in classical guitar. On top of that, she is also completing her third degree, a bachelor of improvised music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music! She was a specialist primary school music teacher in Taiwan and brings a strong background in education.

Michelle Shih won first place in the 2000 Taiwan National Classical Guitar Competition. She has performed professionally as a solo and ensemble classical guitarist giving recitals in Taiwan, China, and Australia. As well as classical guitar, Michelle also plays electric guitar and works as a freelance musician playing with bands such as the Australian Army Reserve Big Band, jazz-pop group Hellcat Throne, and the JWA Little Big Band.

Michelle Shih will be teaching classical guitar and is available to teach beginners through to advanced, children and adults are welcome. She is also able to teach electric and jazz guitar. A former primary school music specialist, Michelle offers private lessons as well as small-group lessons for young beginners. Students at the JWA academy also have the opportunity to play in duos and small ensembles with other instruments.
