Our jazz trumpet experts at JWA are Deven Rahman and Bernice Tesara.
Deven and Bernice bring together the things you need in a good jazz teacher. First, they really know their stuff and have the teaching skills to communicate their expertise to students at all levels and ages. Second, they are committed to jazz education. Bernice and Deven are passionate about the importance of teaching and respecting every student as a learner. Third, of course, they can play! Both are busy professional jazz players making significant marks on the Sydney and Australian jazz scenes.

Good lessons must be effective, should be individually designed for each student (not one-size-fits-all), and need to cover ALL the aspects of playing jazz. At JWA, that’s what our jazz trumpet lessons do.
Structured lessons tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals. Jazz trumpet lessons at JWA are planned by the teacher. The classes follow a logical sequence, building essential skills and knowledge. Individual programs are guided by the students’ interests and goals as well as the teachers’ expertise.
Effective technique is the foundation of playing jazz trumpet. Lessons at JWA include exercises and advice to help each student build the technique they need. Every students gets this along with other aspects of jazz playing. Technique is in support of playing music and creative-expression.
Multi-faceted lessons cover all the essential aspects of playing jazz and improving as a performer. Topics include jazz improvisation, theory, listening & ear-training, jazz history, reading music and interpreting lead sheets, jazz trumpet techniques, and industry or studying advice.
