Jazz band for adults

New year, time to start up a new jazz band for adult students.

Because last year’s beginners aren’t beginners any more, we are excited to offer a new jazz band for adults at JWA as an introduction to playing jazz. Everyone is welcome, pretty much any instrument. You just need to be able to play your instrument well enough to keep up in a friendly, low-pressure group playing easy jazz tunes. If you aren’t sure, you can ask us for a quick assessment. Even if you aren’t ready just yet, don’t worry. A term or so of individual tutoring will get you there.

Our jazz band for adults is much more than just a weekly jam. You get a professional tutor who will coach you and your bandmates in how to play in a small jazz group, will train you in jazz improvisation, and help you build the skills and knowledge you need to learn to play jazz. All this in a friendly and encouraging environment.

When the time comes, you’ll get the chance to perform with your band and can access all the benefits of being part of the inclusive creative community that Jazz Workshop Australia fosters.

The new band is for people new to playing jazz, but if you are already more experienced, we’ve got you covered too in one of our intermediate or advanced groups.

The cost is $396 for a 9-weeks introductory course with the option for an extra 9 weeks consolidation and performance for an additional $396. Rehearsals are 1 hour to 1.5 hours weekly at our studio in St Leonards 2065. There are, so far, two groups: Monday 6:30pm and Friday 7pm. New members are welcome.
