We are delighted to announce that the wonderful bassist Jacques Emery has joined our team at JWA as a teacher. Jacques is now available for double bass and electric bass lessons at our studio in St Leonards / Crows Nest.
A dedicated and passionate educator, Jacques holds a bachelor of music from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music majoring in jazz performance as well as being a graduate of the JWA combos program. He is a significant emerging voice on the double bass as a leader and collaborator and is a member of some of Sydney’s most celebrated jazz ensembles. Jacques has also performed internationally, for instance with the Australian Art Orchestra.
As well as being an acclaimed jazz musician, Jacques Emery is also classically-trained. As a student he toured China and the UK with the Australian Youth Orchestra.
Jaques can teach students of all levels from beginners to advanced. Children are welcome for double bass lessons. One of Jacques areas of interest is developing effective and safe technique in younger players. He says “The double bass is certainly an unusually large instrument, so poor technique can lead to ongoing physical problems in the neck, shoulders, back and arms”. Because of this, “I take posture and technique very seriously and try to foreground them in every lesson”.
