Deven Rahman, our wonderful trumpet teacher here at JWA, has been awarded a surprise (to him) third place in a national arranging competion.
The National Youth Music Arranging Competition – 2020 was run by the Music Arrangers Guild of Australia (MAGA). It was for arrangers aged under 30. Deven said, “I honestly did not expect to even come close to getting a place, with so many amazing arrangers across the country!”. He was recognized for his arrangement of Andrea Keller’s ‘For Bernie’!
The winner was Minnie Hill, from Melbourne, for her arrangement of “Play crazy for me” and second prize went to Hamish Ander – also of Melbourne, for his arrangement of “Batty’s bounce”. The only non-Vicorian on the ‘podium’, Deven said, “I am extremely excited”.
Congratulations Deven.
