Adult jazz combos concert – Part 2

JWA adult jazz combo concerts - part 2 2024

The final instalment of our series of end-of-year concerts for the 2024 adult groups is to be at JWA on Thursday 12 December. The Adult Jazz Combos concert – part 2 begins at 6pm with a group led by Gavin Ahearn.

Adult jazz combos concert - Part 2

Gavin’s first band will be followed by his advanced Friday evening band at 6:30. They are followed by Peter Farrar (7pm), Saul Richardson (7:30), Tony Barnard (8:00), and Roashan Kumarage (8:30). After all that, if anyone feels like it, there might be some jamming to celebrate the end of our year.

2024 has been a bumper year for adult combos at JWA, with a lot of interest in the program. That looks set to continue through 2025 with current members keen to continue and plenty of new members on the waiting list for Semester 1.

An important benefit of the JWA adult combos is that they are much more than just a weekly jam. Sure, it’s important and fun to get together to play. But the JWA program is also about building knowledge and skills over time. It is exciting to see graduates of our adult program out and about doing their own professional gigs.

It really doesn’t matter how old you are when you start learning jazz. You can reach a good level of playing if you put in the time and effort needed, you follow a systematic program of study (not simply flitting from one YouTube video to a random famous-person-clinic and back again) and take onboard the techniques and advice you’re given.

The concert is at Jazz Workshop Australia, Level 2, 89 Chandos St, St Leonards. All are welcome, but we’re limited to 50 guests.

Thanks to all our adult musicians for being part of JWA this year and congratulations on your wonderful musical achievements.
