Students of all ages and standards are welcome. Jazz Workshop caters particularly to students who want to learn to play jazz or who are looking for an alternative to traditional exam-based teaching methods. Students of classical trumpet and those interested in sitting exams are also welcome. Deven can give classical and band trumpet lessons along with jazz. Everybody is welcome. Deven is happy to teach beginners and adults.
Deven Rahman is an experienced trumpet teacher equally at home teaching jazz or classical repertoire, including exam preparation.
He is lead trumpet in the Sydney Youth Jazz Orchestra (SYJO) and in the Sydney Conservatorium Big Band. He has studied jazz at the University of NSW with Alister Spence and Sandy Evans, as well as at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. As well as big band work, Deven performs professionally as a freelancer in a wide range of jazz, commercial, and pop groups.
All of the teachers at the Jazz Workshop can give lessons in jazz improvisation to any student, regardless of their instrument. Saul Richardson specialises in teaching improvisation to beginners and young players. Other JWA teachers, such as Jeremy Rose and Peter Farrar offer coaching to advanced students and professional players.
So, whatever instrument you or your child play, one of our teachers can give lessons in jazz improvisation. Lessons can be either ongoing, occasional, or a short series. Call or email for details
