Trombone Lessons

Trombone lessons are available with Roy Ferin or Luke Davis. Lessons cost $40/half hour or $78/hour paid in advance. Lessons are on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Students of all levels and ages are welcome.

 

Roy Ferin, BA (Mus.Ed/Econ)

Roy Ferin is a well-known freelance jazz rombonist, music educator, artist manager, and music industry specialist. Roy began playing trombone in 1968.

Performed in the USA with the following bands: Mel Torm? Big Band, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra (Ghost Band), Barry Harris Big Band, Guy Lombardo Orchestra (Ghost Band), Bob Crosby Orchestra, The Four Aces, Sammy Kay Orchestra, Nick Brignola Big Band.

Performed in Australia with the following bands: James Morrison Big Band, John Morrison?s Swing City Big Band, GMA with Burt Newton (Channel 10), The Midday Show (1990?s), Mornings with Kerrie Anne (Channel 9), The Channel 9 Footy Show Band (1997), plus numerous album and studio recordings.

Performed in various bands featuring the following artists: Don Burrows, Grace Knight, Monica Trapaga, Julie Anthony, Glenn Shorrock, Darryl Sommers, Tommy Emmanuel, Ignatius Jones, Frank Bennett, Rhonda Burchmore, Jacki Love, Carl Riseley, Guy Sebastian, Doug Parkinson.

Luke Davis

Luke Davis is a young professional quickly building a reputation as a tremendous player in both solo and big band settings. He is lead trombonist in the Sydney Youth Jazz Orchestra and also plays with Judy Bailey’s Jazz Connection, Backy Skank and Groove Casino. Luke toured the USA and Caribbean in 2010, performing in Miami, Orlando, Bridgetown (Barbados) and New York. He is particularly interested in expanding musical vocabulary of his instrument by drawing on diverse influences beyond the standard jazz repertoire, while at the same time fully exploring the rich tradition of jazz trombone.

Luke is currently studying for a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He has also studied overseas with John Fedchock and Rufus Reid.

Luke Davis is an experienced teacher, specialising particularly in educating younger students in the primary and secondary years. He teaches and plays trombone, euphonium and baritone.
